Fabric blog tour, Taking Flight Fabrics

leftovers

Well it is here!  My Turn for Fabric Blog Tour!

Good morning everyone!

This is so exciting to do a final reveal and show you the process of my quilt!

I am so thankful to Amanda Brandl for inviting me to do this tour and for KandKfabric for giving me this awesome fabric to play with.  Amanda has designed two ranges of fabric - Taking Flight and Bush Gum Blossums.  These are her first ranges to be launched onto the market.  I know others have said this, but I can't say it enough, it is such high quality fabric and is amazingly so soft.  My bolt range bundle of fabric is in a truck on its way to me at the moment and I just can't wait.  I really need to make a dress from one of these fabrics.

I did some designing using my quiltography app on my iPad   I decided that a carpenters wheel quilt would be ideal for this fabric.  It measures 39" so is ideal for a lap rug or a baby quilt.

I decided to use 5" squares as this will make it charm friendly quilt if anyone wants to try it themselves.  I will write another post with all the details of the pattern later in the week.  If I do this here it will leave you a novel and that is not the idea today but to give you a glimpse of these awesome fabrics.

Quilting in the Stables

Now I just knew this little beauty had to accompany me to Harewood house -Scots on the Swamp Fundraiser where I was doing a demonstration of my quilting endeavours.   I was in the stables again and this is a great place to showcase my quilts.   I then took Staring Feathered Friends Quilt on a tour of the house.  Here are the photos I took and you will see a few with some delightful people who were looking through the house when I took the photos.

Thanks for looking and reading my ramblings.   This is not all though, I will give you a rundown on the pattern and you can make your own Staring Feathered Friends Quilt.   I will be making kits of this on store next week right here so be sure to check them out!

I decided that the scraps I had leftover could not be wasted and I should do a giveaway!  Who doesn't love a giveaway right?  So leave me a comment and what you think it will be.  I will be doing a blog post on Good Friday and draw the winner of the giveaway!  here are a few sneak peaks for you.

So until next time, have an awesome week, once again many thanks for inviting me on this tour Amanda  it has been so much fun.  Check out everyone else's projects by using the #fabricblogtour or #takingflightfabrics or #bushgumblossomsfabrics and look on instagram feeds or here for links to everyones blog posts

Where have I been hiding?

Well good afternoon!

I can not believe it has been 6 weeks without me really blogging here and finishing this quilt blog post!  Life has become so busy of late I am not sure I even know what sleep is.

Star Fusion being quilted!
I will complete the blog for The Bakers dozen block of the month in the next few days.  My work schedule has me now working five days so it only leaves me with two days off to do all of the mundane things.  I must admit i have achieved quite a few things in the last few weeks.  I will just give you a few photos in this blog post to do a catch up.

This will be one of the last blogs I will do on here as I am finding I am unable to do them on my iPad as blogger is not doing any upgrades for that medium.  I will move my blog to my website.  I have done one blog here to find out how it looked and I was very pleased with the result.  I will continue to leave links to the new posts here.  Therefore people will still be able to see what I am doing and not miss out on anything.

There is one thing I will be completing today that I am unable to show you until it is presented to the owners.

Without any further delay here is a few photos of my achievements and we will catch up over the next few days.   Beware the posts might just happen quicker than we expect.

Nitty gritty of Anniversary Blooms!

I am sure you are all dying to see some lovely photos and here about this quilt.   It all started 2 years ago when the American Quilters Society released the 30th Anniversary Dogwood Fabric Collection.   They had a competition to design a quilt.  I did but didn't get it quilted in time, I finally finished this year.
Here are the fabrics and the starting of the piecing

I decided to use the familiar Churn Dash Block to form a lattice and the drunkard paths to form a wedding ring flower.  Hence the name of Anniversary Blooms.  When these fabrics arrived I couldn't believe how delightful they were.

this was my rough mock up which I had decided upon
So after the top was sewn I commenced the hand quilting.  I decided to use Aurifil 28wt threads in several colours.  I also wanted to give the striped border a slightly different look so I went with doing small baptist fans and then I highlighted the flowers and made a cross hatch in the centre.  I then started putting leaves around in the churn dash blocks.

The adding of the background leaves

nearing the end of quilting
I just love the texture of the hand quilting
For this quilt I used Hobbs Tuscany Wool Wadding.  It is definitely my favourite for loft and stitch definition.  Now I just loved working on this quilt but as I thought I was finished I would keep deciding it needed more background quilting.  So I kept going on and off for the 2 years.  Many other quilts were completed in this time but for me this is my favourite quilt so far.  Many have asked who this quilt is for and my answer is ME!  It will be my quilt for ever even if the family are all claiming it!  So I hope you have enjoyed my Anniversary Blooms Blog.

Don't forget to visit the other bloggers and their quilts over at Amy"s Creative Side.

So Until next time take care and have fun,

and many thanks for reading my ramblings,

Wendy
